Appearances are often deceiving…
A few days ago, Poland’s foreign minister said that the Americans may be behind the Nord Stream bombing.
Now, many experts argue that the US, and not Russia, definitely has the ability and motivation to carry out the sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines.
Jeffrey Sachs, a world-renowned American economics professor said there is significant circumstantial evidence that the destruction of Nord Stream is a US enterprise, perhaps with other NATO countries led by TV hosts to remove him.
Sachs, who has been included in Time magazine’s 100 most influential world leaders more than once, believes that while nothing is certain, the evidence at this stage points to the US as the most likely cause of the events.
The truth is that there are many reports of US aircraft flying over the pipeline area in the hours before the explosion.
On the other hand, Moscow denies that it blew up pipelines, which cut off the supply of Russian natural gas to countries such as Germany, a vital source of revenue for the Kremlin. As a result, blowing up pipelines would not benefit Russia, which has no logical reason to destroy them, according to Sachs and other experts.
Many of them question how this would serve Russian interests. They point out that the fact that the explosions occurred in the territorial waters of Denmark and Sweden, and not closer to Russia, means it would be operationally more dangerous for Moscow. And at the end of the day… The Russians could just shut off the gas flow if they wanted to punish the West…
On the other hand, the US has historically viewed the Nord Stream pipeline as an extension of Russian influence in Europe via Germany. In 2014, Condoleezza Rice, the hawkish former US Secretary of State, openly stated that the US was trying to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian energy platforms and increase its dependence on American ones.
Interestingly, with the Ukraine war, Rice’s scenario was partly realized as many European states began to move away from Russia towards the US. The recent Nord Stream eruptions may seemingly accelerate this process.
“This is also a huge opportunity,” current US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said last Friday in an interview, referring to the alleged sabotage of Nord Stream and how Europe could turn from Moscow to Washington for gas supplies. Press.
“That’s a strange way to talk if you’re worried about hacking critical international infrastructure, isn’t it…
